Mirror Mirror was a university film project I worked on in grade eleven. A student from Capilano University in Vancouver contacted me about doing the music for his film project. It was a short film about a girl who discovers a mirror that makes her look exactly as she wants to, causing her to become self-conscious and unstable. She seeks more and more drastic measures to conform her real-life image to the one she sees, and over the course of the film she becomes obsessive, jealous, and bitter. This was my first film scoring job ever, and I had zero prior experience. I spent weeks corresponding with the director, sending demos back and forth, receiving feedback and addressing it. Then on the project due date, they contacted me asking for credit music. I was away on vacation at a friend’s house, so I wrote this piece on my laptop, sitting on the living room floor. Ironically, it’s my favourite cue that I wrote for the film.
